Star of the Day: Frank Montas made his first start of the season and didn’t disappoint. He matched up against a very tough Myrtle Beach lineup and didn’t allow a ball to leave the infield until the 4th inning, recording nine groundouts. His electric fastball topped out at 98 and he flashed a plus slider, according to scouts in attendance. The White Sox farm system is lacking depth in high ceiling starting pitchers, and while Montas is far from a sure thing, he has considerable upside.
Who is Hot: Dan Black has had a rough start to the season but had a great night, going 3-4 with a homer. Trayce Thompson has been in a mini-slump but he blasted his third homer of the year tonight. Courtney Hawkins hit a double and knocked in two runs, Hawkins leads the Carolina League in RBI’s with 30. Robinson Leyer struck out seven in five innings of work, not allowing any earned runs.
